Marketing and Communications Internship Program
Semester-long, year-long, or summer-long internships with EMAS Marketing and Communication are available and needs are assessed on a semester basis.
About the Internship Program
As an intern in EMAS Marketing and Communications, you will support our work promoting the NC State brand to prospective and current students by creating various creative and effective on-brand communication and information design solutions ranging from print to digital, web, and environmental design.
This is a 7-10 hour time commitment each week in which you will practice professional communications and marketing team in your area of focus including graphic design, photography and videography, and social media. Students will be hired through the PEP program.

About the Unit and the Team
Marketing and Communications in Enrollment Management and Services at NC State is an excellent opportunity to enhance your resume as it entails hands-on marketing, communication, design, photography and video skills working on a wide variety of projects for different units and departments across the university ranging from print to digital, web, and environmental design.
The Marketing and Communications team is a diverse, award-winning creative and collaborative team, home to NC State and UNC Wilmington alumni. We value collaboration as the driving force leading to productivity, engagement and employee advocacy.
About the PEP Program
The Provost’s Professional Experience Program (PEP) supports academic success by funding on-campus work experiences that give students more time to focus on their studies. The program also provides students greater access to research and professional development opportunities. Students can earn up to $2,000 over an academic year ($1,000 per semester) regardless of other scholarships, work-study programs or financial needs. However, students may hold only one PEP position per semester.

Communications Internship
Come apply and develop your communications skills and knowledge to a wide range of marketing and communication projects. This is a great opportunity to get involved in many different projects with various responsibilities based on the division needs and the student interests.
During this internship, the student intern will gain relevant experience with both internal and external communications by participating in projects, conducting research and assisting with production needs.
Learning Goals and Outcomes
Throughout this internship, students will:
- Understand and apply the NC State brand identity guidelines to create new content and develop visual stories that embody the NC State look and feel
- Assist the creative team in researching, ideating, conceptualizing, producing a wide range of marketing and communications assets and tools
- Examples of projects include researching and reporting on trends for student merchandise, social media use, student-focused event organization; evaluating various types of content and identifying areas of improvements; creating new communication assets (print, digital and/or web).
- Collaborate with the creative team to bring ideas to life from research and concept development to execution and dissemination
- Work with the Associate Director to develop 1-2 self-conducted initiatives identified from a variety of opportunities
- Work effectively both independently and as part of the team ensuring good working relationships with the team and stakeholders
- Work alongside their supervisor to determine learning interests and outcomes
Required Qualifications
In order to apply to this internship, students must:
- Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Art + Design, Communication, Graphic and Experience Design or any Communication Media or Marketing related concentration
- Have experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud applications or any create software
- Have a portfolio including examples of marketing and communications work (classwork and/or professional)

Graphic Design Internship
Explore behind the scenes and discover what the NC State brand is all about. Apply your knowledge to various projects and campaigns that appear across campus and beyond.
Learning Goals and Outcomes
Throughout this internship, students will:
- Understand and apply the NC State brand identity guidelines to create new content and develop visual stories that embody the NC State look and feel
- Assist the creative team in designing a wide range of graphic design assets using Adobe Creative Cloud applications
- Examples of graphic design assets include designing a poster, a postcard, a series of stickers, billboards, email campaign graphic assets, social media graphic assets, video assets…
- Collaborate with the creative team to bring ideas to life from research and concept development to execution and dissemination
- Work effectively both independently and as part of the team ensuring good working relationships with the team and stakeholders
- Work alongside their supervisor to determine learning interests and outcomes
Required Qualifications
In order to apply to this internship, students must:
- Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Art + Design, Graphic and Experience Design or any Visual Communications focused program
- Have experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop
- Have a graphic design portfolio
Internship Supervisor

Photography and Video Internship
Discover the NC State brand and the use of big, bold and impactful imagery through photography and videography to tell and celebrate the stories and journeys of NC State students.
Learning Goals and Outcomes
Throughout this internship, students will:
- Understand and apply the NC State brand identity guidelines to create new content and develop visual stories that embody the NC State look and feel
- Assist the Multimedia Content Producer and/or creative team by researching and ideating on creative concepts and directions and designing storyboards supporting storytelling through the use photo and video
- Direct 1-2 photo/video campaigns, from research through the implementation phase (working with the EMAS Marcom staff members)
- Collaborate with the creative team to bring ideas to life from research and concept development to execution and dissemination
- Work effectively both independently and as part of the team ensuring good working relationships with the team and stakeholders
- Work alongside their supervisor to determine learning interests and outcomes
Required Qualifications
In order to apply to this internship, students must:
- Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Art + Design, Communication, Graphic and Experience Design, or any program with any Communication Media or Marketing related concentration
- Have experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud applications for photography/video editing and production
- Have a photography portfolio and/or example(s) of videography work or reel

Social Media Marketing Internship
Create content to connect with our audience through storytelling and networking while demonstrating the NC State brand personality: courageous, innovative, intellectual and purposeful.
Learning Goals and Outcomes
Throughout this internship, students will:
- Understand and apply the NC State brand identity guidelines to create new content and develop visual stories that embody the NC State look and feel
- Assist the creative team by researching and ideating on social media content stories and directions as well as developing a social media calendar
- Direct 1-2 social media marketing campaigns, from research through the implementation phase (working with the EMAS Marcom staff members)
- Collaborate with the creative team to bring ideas to life from research and concept development to execution and dissemination
- Work effectively both independently and as part of the team ensuring good working relationships with the team and stakeholders
- Work alongside their supervisor to determine learning interests and outcomes
